To Partner With Government, Communicate Your Idea in Simple Ways and Articulate Your Scalability: Ramji

The work of a non-profit organization can seldom be isolated from that of the government. Most often, nonprofits and government offices are wedded to the same cause, of improving living standards and working towards progress.  Therefore, partnerships with the government, in some areas of mutual interest, is inevitable for nonprofits and social organizations to achieve the desired impact.

28009440104_3002462bfd_zOrganizations involved in social work reportedly face challenges in working with government run offices, finding gaps in communication, understanding each other’s work styles and temper  as well as arriving at mutual goals.

Forging a winning association with the government can be achieved, based on trust and communication, according to Founder and Chairman, Agastya Foundation, Ramji Raghavan. “It (working with the government) is a continuous relationship building exercise. It is not just the government; I have seen challenges in the private sector as well,” he said, speaking at a session in the Development Dialogue 2016.

While communicating to the government, it is important to articulate the plan in simple ways, explicitly describing your plans and potential to scale. “Your message (in communications) has to be simple, there are certain instances where government offices look for solutions that scale. In certain instances, your capacity to articulate a solution that scales is important,” Ramji added.

He urged enterprises working at the grassroots to keep sight of their founding goals and to articulate their mission in simple, inspiring ways. “If you want to scale, the message has to be very simple. It must hit (the listener) as an idea and give an emotional connect. Simplicity in the way you articulate your mission is very important,” he said.
