The Idea of Executing Locally and Innovating Globally

This world is a place where things are connected and relative to each other. Today, innovation is something that is rampant everywhere across the globe. Innovators are compassionate and would like to help the impoverished communities. To solve the challenges at a global level, locally relevant entrepreneurship and execution of ideas can be a very efficient and interactive way of tackling problems. In line with this concept that sandbox ecosystem believes in, the theme for Ek Soch Development Dialogue 2016 was  “Execute Locally, Innovate Globally”.

At Sandbox, people believe that to create an impact at a global level, execution of ideas that are innovated across the globe can be implemented to solve problems at ground level. For that, four things need to go hand in hand:

  • Innovations that are relevant and co-created with the people who need it
  • Execution capacity – ability to absorb innovation and having the human resources to roll out the solution
  • Appropriate infrastructure
  • Government involvement and the right policies and support

To implement this idea, a ‘bottom-up approach,’ is required where solutions are executed and driven by the beneficiaries of these solutions.  This will create a culture of problem-solving among people that could make large challenges surmountable. As Dr. Desh Deshpande says, “Once you get a taste of problem-solving, you will never go back and become a complainer again.”

So, the idea is to build ecosystems that work for people, with people and are naturally aligned to meet the needs of the population. Social Innovation Sandbox is one such ecosystem that would bring all the necessary ingredients for sustenance together to build solutions for local needs.
