Development Dialogue: How it unfolded since 2008

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Here is a snapshot of how the DD has evolved since 2008 and has become a summit of global recognition. </span>

<strong>1. Development Dialogue 2008 </strong>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>The first DD was held at the IMSR Business School in Hubballi, Karnataka. For the first time, the entire portfolio of partners of the Deshpande Foundation – over 200 delegates – came together to discuss their work in the Sandbox. </span>

Highlighting the innovation in the Sandbox, the second year of the DD focused mostly on new innovations done by the partners.

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Featuring over 40 speakers, the conference involved in-depth panel discussions about breaking the cliches and driving change in the social development sector.</span>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>With the rising grandeur of the Dialogue, DD 2011 focused on jumping on windows of opportunity and creating the most successful projects possible with available resources. </span>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>DD 2011 also featured site visits to our partner NGOs working in the field, cases and stories from the Sandbox and cultural showcases.</span>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>With the theme of exploring the creation of a thriving ecosystem, the 5th DD gathered all the partners and grantees to collectively take stock of our progress and evaluate the Sandbox’s progress and future development, as well as providing an opportunity for practitioners to collaborate. </span>

<strong>Theme : Tipping Point</strong>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Focusing on the ‘Tipping point’ as a precursor to success, DD 2013 brought together legends like Ratan Tata, Narayana Murthy, Dr. R. Mashelkar, and Sudha Murthy, who have had phenomenal successes in their respective fields and a lifetime of learning to share.</span>

Stressing on the fact that whatever we count should lead to actions that improve impact, DD 2014 helped define not only what matters most, but also how to count and measure the success of our work.

<strong>Theme : Scaling by Proving</strong>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Emphasizing the path to truly scalable developmental impact, DD 2015 discussed the concept of ‘Failing Small, Failing Early, Failing Fast’ so that organizations can test the hypothesis and learn new approaches at a small scale, rapidly pivot ideas, learn from mistakes and make quicker midcourse corrections early in their implementation.</span>

<strong> 9. Development Dialogue 2016</strong>

<strong>Theme : ‘Innovate globally, Execute locally'</strong>

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>The 9th edition of  DD focused on the necessary elements to achieve impact, such as relevant and co-created innovations, execution ability, appropriate infrastructure and government support. The DD 2016 hosted 70 speakers of national and international repute like Nobel laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus and included over 450 delegates. </span>

The idea is to demystify the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of ‘Scaling Effectively’  through inspirational keynote speeches, insightful panel discussions, informal round-table sessions and engaging field visits.</span>
